Ubuntu – I am because of you

Ubuntu – I am because of you

Boyd Varty, TED Women 2013 – December 2013

Inspirational and almost unbelievable stories from a South African who’s lived most of his life in the midst of nature. He’s also a man who knew Nelson Mandela personally. His personal horrific story in the middle of the talk is amazing, and the story about the disabled elephant called “Elvis” is enchanting.

I love the definition of the word Ubuntu;

Ubuntu – I am because of you – People are not people without other people

Which reminds me of┬áThich Nhat Hanh’s concept of interconnectedness in The Miracle of Mindfulness. ┬áThe same thing we learnt from considering The Table and the Universe.

A thoroughly enjoyable and uplifting talk.
